How can I make a booking?
Either email us from our contact page or call us on 01604 217357 to check availability. A £150 deposit is payable at the time of booking and the balance is due 10 days before the start of hire.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment can be made by cheque, credit or debit card or on-line banking.
Do you require a security deposit?
Yes we do. We will require a security deposit of £500 which will be refunded at the end of the rental less any deduction in the event of any loss or damage to the van or its contents.
Where do we pick the camper up from?
Our handover centre is located to the west of Olney on the A 509, about 15 minutes from junction 14 of the M1. By prior arrangement we can collect you from local airports or railway stations.
What happens in the event of a breakdown?
All our Californias are covered by Volkswagen Roadside Assistance.
Can we leave our car with you?
Yes. We park customers’ cars in a secure alarmed building.
Where are the nearest railway stations?
We can collect you from Bedford, Milton Keynes Central, Northampton or Wellingborough by prior arrangement.
Do you have a minimum rental period?
During July and August our rentals are for full weeks, based on a Friday afternoon collection and return the following Friday morning. At other times of the year you can rent by the night although there is a minimum rental charge of £200. Last minute bookings are sometimes available for earlier collections, or for later returns.
When can I collect or return the camper?
Collection is available from 3.00 pm on the first day of rental and return must be by 11.00am on the final day. Out of consideration for other customers please ensure you are back in good time. Unfortunately we have to apply a late return charge of £20 per hour because of the work load caused by delays.
Will you help me get to know how the vehicle operates?
Yes. We will spend as long as you need to make sure that you are really confident and happy with the controls and features of the California. Each camper has an illustrated booklet to remind you how things work as well as the manufacturer’s handbook. Of course you can contact us by phone at any time if you are unsure of anything.
What documentation do I need to bring?
To meet insurance requirements every driver will be asked to produce the photo ID and paper document of their driving licences together with recent utility bills (dated within the last 3 months) showing the same names and addresses as the driving licences.
How old are the campers?
Less than 6 months old
How many people can sleep in the California?
A family of four, or 4 adults - if you know each other well!
Are there any insurance restrictions for drivers?
Our rental rates include full comprehensive insurance for drivers between the ages of 25 and 70. This is based on a full driving licence held for at least 5 years and with 6 or fewer current points. Outside of these conditions we will be happy to quote for individual cases.
Can we take the California abroad?
Yes, to our immediate neighbouring countries, but there is a surcharge for insurance and roadside assistance. Please enquire if you are interested in going further afield.
Can we take bicycles with us?
Yes, but only using an approved Volkswagen bicycle rack designed for the California. A suitable rack can be rented from us and we can even provide bicycles, subject to availability.
Can you recommend some sites to stay at?
Our Californias have corporate membership of The Camping and Caravanning Club. This means you can stay at their approved sites at members’ rates. There is a directory of sites in each California.
